Andover, Minnesota: SVE and C3 at the WDE Site
Updated: Sep 14
GEO's Andover case study describes soil vapor extraction with refrigerated condensation at the WDE site in Minnesota. Historical waste disposal affected soil and groundwater with chlorinated solvents, benzene, and toluene.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency selected a C3-equipped soil vapor extraction system for pilot testing in 2009. The system's capacity increased from 100 to 200 standard cubic feet per minute in April 2010. The pilot recovered more than 40,000 pounds of mixed chlorinated solvents as non-aqueous phase liquid, which was sent offsite for appropriate recycling or disposal.
A permanent 200-scfm system was installed in January 2013. The case study reports 100% runtime during February 2013 and an average condensate recovery of 40 gallons per day during that month.
These are reported operating results for specific periods. The described demonstration is vapor extraction and condensation; it does not establish removal of all inorganic contaminants listed elsewhere in the source.
