Velcon Filters, San Jose: C3 Multiphase Extraction Case Study

At the Velcon Filters site in San Jose, California, investigations identified dense non-aqueous phase liquid contamination. Extraction wells were installed to recover separate-phase product, groundwater, and vapor. TCE and vinyl chloride were the principal contaminants of concern.

The remediation used a high-vacuum multiphase extraction system equipped with C3 Technology and rated at 200 standard cubic feet per minute. A portable generator supplied electricity.

The case study reports recovery of more than 11,000 pounds of chlorinated VOCs during 90 days of operation. It also reports greater than 99.9% removal of contaminant mass from the extracted vapor stream. That vapor-treatment efficiency is distinct from the percentage of contamination removed from the entire site.
