GEO's Northern California case study concerns a former chemical storage and solvent recovery operation. Investigations identified impacts from halogenated solvents and chlorofluorocarbons in soil and groundwater.

Case-study chart showing cumulative mass removed and mass-removal rate over time.
Reported mass removal in extracted soil vapor at the Northern California CFC site.

The documented vapor extraction and treatment system used 16 extraction wells and a flow rate of 100 standard cubic feet per minute. The case-study summary reports 4,860 pounds of contaminant mass recovered during 30 months of operation.

The contaminants included CFC-12, CFC-113, PCE, TCE, and other chlorinated solvents. The site's alternating fill, silty clay, and sand units influenced subsurface conditions.

The recovered-mass figure is an operating result for the treatment system. The source does not provide a basis to claim complete groundwater cleanup or final regulatory closure for the entire site.
